Madhur Bhandarkar Plans Fashion 2: Here’s What You Need to Know About the Upcoming Sequel Series

Sixteen years after the release of his highly acclaimed film Fashion, Madhur Bhandarkar is planning a sequel. The filmmaker has confirmed that he is working on Fashion 2, stating that the original movie has “all the potential for a sequel.” Interestingly, the sequel might even be presented in a show format.

In an interview with Bollywood Hungama, Madhur Bhandarkar shared his thoughts on Fashion 2. He believes that the world of fashion has changed significantly since the first film, and this provides plenty of material that could be expanded into a series with multiple seasons. However, he also mentioned that it could still work as a film.

Madhur finds the topic fascinating but hasn’t made any final decisions yet. He pointed out that social media has completely transformed the fashion industry. “There was a time when supermodels were everywhere,” he said. “But in recent years, can you name any supermodel? Bollywood celebrities have taken over as showstoppers. Through Fashion 2, I want to explore what happened to those supermodels and highlight how even a girl from a small town can now become a model or influencer.”

The original Fashion, released on October 29, 2008, told the story of Meghna Mathur, a small-town girl played by Priyanka Chopra, whose life spirals out of control after she becomes a supermodel. The film was widely praised and marked a significant milestone in Priyanka Chopra’s career, establishing her as a powerful actress.

Madhur Bhandarkar is also known for directing other notable films like Chandni Bar, Corporate, Traffic Signal, Jail, and Heroine. His most recent film, Babli Bouncer, starring Tamannaah Bhatia, was released directly on Disney+ Hotstar on September 23, 2022.
