Kiran Rao, Aamir Khan, and the entire team of Laapataa Ladies had been anxiously waiting, hoping that their comedy-drama film would be selected as India’s nomination for the 2025 Oscars. Earlier today, the movie was officially chosen as India’s entry. Following the announcement, Kiran Rao expressed her gratitude on social media, thanking the cast and crew for making this achievement possible. Nitanshi Goel, one of the film’s stars, shared her excitement, saying Kiran helped many people achieve their dreams by making this movie. And Bollywood celebrities soon chimed in with their reactions.
After Laapataa Ladies was selected as India’s official entry to the 2025 Oscars in the Best International Feature Film category, Kiran Rao wrote a heartfelt note expressing her appreciation for everyone involved in the project. Nitanshi Goel, who plays Phool Kumari in the movie, commented on Kiran’s post, saying, “Kiran ma’am, you’ve helped so many dreams come true. I’m still trying to process if this is real.”
Bollywood stars quickly took to the comments section to congratulate the team. Actress Aditi Rao Hydari shared heart emojis, while Munjya star Sharvari wrote, “Big, big congratulations, Ma’am, and sending a tight hug.” Piyush Mishra, Karisma Kapoor, Karan Johar, Prateik Babbar, Mona Singh, Bhumi Pednekar, Radhika Apte, and Dia Mirza also sent their best wishes to the team.
Pratibha Ranta, who played Jaya Tripathi in the film, was emotional after reading Kiran’s note, and Rao’s son-in-law, Nupur Shikhare, responded with heart emojis. Aamir Khan’s production house commented, “From sunflowers to Oscars, what a journey!”
In her note, Kiran Rao, who also directed Dhobi Ghat, said she felt deeply honored and thrilled that Laapataa Ladies was selected as India’s official entry for the 2025 Academy Awards. Laapataa Ladies stars Sparsh Shrivastava, Chhaya Kadam, and Ravi Kishan, and it was released in theaters on March 1, 2024.
