Laapataa Ladies: Kiran Rao’s Favorite Scenes Revealed

Kiran Rao is on cloud nine, and for good reason. Her second movie as a director, Laapataa Ladies, has been chosen as India’s official entry for the 2025 Academy Awards. The world is celebrating her for making this comedy-drama, and she has praised her team for being a part of the film’s success. In a recent interview, Kiran Rao shared her thoughts on her favorite scenes from the movie, which stars Nitanshi Goel, Sparsh Shrivastava, Pratibha Ranta, Abhay Dubey, Chhaya Kadam, and Ravi Kishan.

In an interview with NDTV, Kiran expressed her excitement about taking the first step toward bringing an international award to India. She also talked about the three scenes from the film that are closest to her heart. The first scene she mentioned is the final one, where the characters Phool Kumari (played by Nitanshi Goel) and Jaya Singh (played by Pratibha Ranta) finally meet. Since the two characters are not together for most of the film, Kiran said this moment is very special and one of her favorites.

Next, Kiran talked about a night scene where the women of the house gather for dinner. She shared that it was a cold night, and they lit a fire during filming. She loved shooting this scene because it showed a strong sense of sisterhood among the women. Lastly, she mentioned a scene at the tea stall where Manju Maai (played by Chhaya Kadam) has a deep conversation with Phool, giving her a reality check about life and how the world works.

Just a few hours ago, Kiran Rao shared her happiness on social media after Laapataa Ladies was selected as India’s official entry for the Academy Awards. In her heartfelt message, she said this recognition reflects the hard work of her entire team, whose dedication brought the story to life. She also expressed hope that the film would connect with audiences around the world, just as it did in India, earning the love and admiration of cinema lovers everywhere.

In her note, Kiran thanked her producers, Aamir Khan Productions and Jio Studios, for their strong support and belief in her vision. She also took a moment to praise her team, saying it was a privilege to work with such talented and passionate people who were committed to telling this story. “I also want to thank the entire cast and crew for their immense talent, dedication, and hard work, which made this film possible. This journey has been one of incredible collaboration and growth,” Kiran added.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Laapataa Ladies has been selected from India in the Best International Feature Film category at the 97th Academy Awards, which will take place in 2025. The movie competed against 29 other films, including Animal (starring Ranbir Kapoor), Kill (backed by Karan Johar), Kalki 2898 AD, Srikanth, Chandu Champion, Maidaan, Sam Bahadur, Article 370, and many more.

So far, only three Indian films have been nominated in the Best International Feature category: Mehboob Khan’s Mother India in 1957, Mira Nair’s Salaam Bombay! in 1988, and Ashutosh Gowariker’s Lagaan in 2001.
